I had one of the best Christmas’s in a while. Mostly because I got to spend it with some of my family. Although I absolutely LOVE my husband’s family and I enjoy spending time with them, nothing can replace your own family.

Our Christmas gift was the gas money to get up to New Jersey to be able to spend time with them. It was more than fun, despite the fact that the 8.5 hour trip up there took us 12 hours. One hour was traffic, most of it was due to kids having to pee and Josiah deciding he was going to have a growth spurt and want to nurse every 2 hours, which meant at best we got 1.5 hours of driving before we had to stop again. We also decided we’d leave Tuesday night after my husband got out of work and drive through the night, thinking the girls would sleep most of the way. We were wrong. Lexi talked our ear off until she fell asleep around 8:30. Caylee took a little nap, then fell asleep around 9:30. Both girls woke up several times, then woke up around 2am and stayed awake until way beyond us arriving at my sisters. Luckily she was willing to stay up with them for awhile when we got there until they wound down, she also got up with them when they woke up.

Eugene was having some weird cold/allergy issues so he actually slept most of the way up, leaving a lot of the driving to me. Something very unusual for us. Luckily I was awake and excited so I was able to drive without falling asleep.

We all had cold/allergy issues while we were gone, even Josiah. Lexi only had allergy issues, and it wasn’t bad at all. Caylee was getting over hers by the second day there, I’m a mom, so even when I felt miserable you couldn’t tell, and Eugene’s was off and on. Josiah only had a little bit of a runny/stuffy nose which didn’t bother him more than 3 times. Luckily we were all feeling great on Christmas day.

Which is good, since we spent the day with 28 other people. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma, sister’s, nieces, a nephew… it was tons of fun. Some of us played a fun game called Quelf… if you like to have fun and make a fool of yourself, this is a great game. You roll and pick up cards, and the cards tell you what to do. Some of them are like a charades, where you have to act like something, for example, my sister had one where she had to pretend she was a jail guard who had no lips, knee’s were glued together, she was covered in feathers too I think, and had to do her best to explain how she got in that situation… Some of the cards are “ruules”, things like say “i have spoken” after everything you say- for the rest of the game, or until you draw another ruules card. It was pretty much just a bunch of fun nonsense.

Christmas night we decided to drive 3 hours to my other sister’s house to spend the night. We wanted to be able to spend some more time with them and also try to avoid the crazy snow that was going to be coming up the east coast. We managed to do both.

We got home last night, Eugene went to work today and I’ve done my best to put everything away, catch up on laundry and help the kids adjust to having just mommy again, not aunts, uncles, daddy’s, cousins, great aunts etc. It has been a fun day…
