Tuesday was my prenatal appointment, I was happy to get the clear to start exercising again. To me this meant one thing- I could finally run! I was super excited but knew with Eugene working long hours it was going to be hard to get a run in. Tuesday night I did a workout from The Biggest Loser Wii game that Eugene got me for Christmas. It wasn’t real hard, but I felt it the next day, especially after I ran.
I set out to do my first run on Wednesday morning before Eugene went to work. I knew it wouldn’t be easy and that I didn’t have a lot of time, but my goal was to get in two miles- if that was possible. I made it to the end of our road (.3miles) and wanted to stop, so when I hit the half mile mark I decided I’d turn around. I was going really slow and didn’t want to push it anymore for time, plus I hadn’t run in 8 months I didn’t know what my body could handle.
The rest of that day and all of the next day I felt like I had just finished a half marathon. When I stood up or moved or bent my legs they screamed at me. I think it was a combination of the game and the run, oh and the lack of stretching. When I was near the end of my training I didn’t need to stretch after a mile or three, so when I ran I just did a quick stretch or two and called it good. Nope, not anymore. My muscles (and lungs) are not used to running 10 miles anymore, so one mile is a big deal again.
I took yesterday off, aside from a small 10 minute workout that sparkpeople offered. But tonight I decided to hit the road again. This time with intentions of stretching good (even rolling out my IT band) when I was done. As I got to the half mile mark I decided to push myself a little further, it was a flat part of the road so I knew I could do more (everything around here is hilly so flat is nice). By the time I got back to my road and over the little up hill I was feeling great, I even picked up speed. I contemplated turning back around but it was getting dark and my husband is very strict about me not running after dark. I did 1.5 miles today. Tomorrow I plan to hit up a paved trail about 15 minutes away, it’s almost completely flat so I want to see how far I can go.
So after Today, I remembered I love running, but I still hate rolling out my IT band. OUCH.
